Fire damage to Kitchen ceiling in Aurora, IL
Fire started in this home by a small appliance being left on, leaving damage to more than what the fire itself touched.
Discoloration
After a fire smoke damage may become visible on walls, ceilings and surfaces, appearing as discoloration or staining. Within days walls and flooring may begin to turn a yellowish tint. Plastic materials and wood can also become tinted and warped, metal hardware may start showing damage to the surfaces such as rusting or corrosion. Counter tops, tiles and other porous stone can have permanent color damage from the acidic residue in soot.
Smoke produces tiny particles of carbon in the air, and when deposited, these particles are called soot. The first step reducing the smell of fire is getting rid of the smoke residue or soot.
